I couldn't get psyched to finish the previous part, so I'll do this first. It takes place chronologically after part 2.

Part 3: Let's have a good time playing fairly.

Chapter 1: Jason

Nick Sparta finds himself on the floor of an unfamiliar building. He wipes the sleep from his eyes and looks around. The room is huge: tens of thousands of square feet on the bottom floor, as well as a second floor balcony wrapping around the room, accessible by a staircase. Craning his head upward, he even sees something like a third floor, though he doesn't see any way to reach it.

The walls are pale green. At the center of the room is a huge marble statue - an angel? He walks forward to examine, then spots a pile of debris at the other end of the room. He runs to the mess of rubble and tries to move it, but it's too heavy.

This must be where the door is - or was.

And then it hits him - where's Al?

His eyes dart around the huge room, but it doesn't take him long to recognize that he has no idea where his brother is. He doesn't think about it before he does it. Nick's brain goes to sleep, and Al's wakes up.

But nothing changes.

He looks down at his body. He's Al now, no question, but he's standing in exactly the same spot, and now Nick is gone. This isn't how it normally works. It's jarring, in fact, how he thought he was someone else for a moment. Al is Al, he knows, and Nick is Nick, and nothing can change that - but when memories and experiences are shared freely, it pushes the limits of identity. It gets less weird the more it happens.

Something else is different, too. His right hand is wrapped around the stock of a rifle. He examines it, but it's nothing he recognizes. Nick might recognize it, he thinks. Another of the things the Sparta brothers are learning to live with is the unclear delineation of which memories are shared. If the American academic system still existed, Sparta would be a hot subject of psychological study; it seems that, roughly, memories of the "rational" brain are shared (so if Nick learns Calculus, Al can call upon it just as easily), but some more primitive sectors learn independently. He finds himself having to learn faces twice, but identities only once; it takes Al a moment to recognize someone that only Nick has seen, but he already has a model of that person's personality to pair the face with.

Maybe something like that is what happened with this gun, he thinks, and puts himself to sleep. Once again he's fooled for a moment to think nothing happened, but he quickly realizes he's Nick. Something is definitely different about the rules here. He holds up the gun, but it's a sword.

Huh?

Nick turns the blade over in his hands. Where the hell did this come from? Where did the gun go? He switches to Al again, and finds he's holding the gun again. He tries to toss it on the ground, but it stays in his hand. He can't get rid of it. He switches to Nick, and sure enough, there's the sword.

And then he's in a totally different room.

It's a library. Not a huge one; just a couple of shelves. The floor is red. In front of him is a doorway leading to a pale green hallway.

Okay, he thinks. He peeks out the door. The right is a dead end; the left turns a corner beyond which he can't see. Cautiously, with his sword in hand, Nick advances.

He walks slowly and quietly up to the corner he can't see beyond. He goes one step at a time, taking more smaller and more rapid steps as he comes near. Suddenly, instead of taking two rapid small steps, he dashes ahead ten feet! He finds himself exposed and runs back behind the corner to collect his thoughts.

"I tried to walk forward rapidly," he thinks, "and instead of two small steps, I dashed." He tries to figure out what's going on. He tries it again. Step, step - dash! He does it backwards. Step, step - dash. He's bouncing all over the place! It works to both sides, too.

With new confidence, he heads around the corner. He finds himself facing a collapsed hallway. Below him is a lower floor.

The gap isn't too huge, though. He can probably jump it. He tries, and falls. SHIT, he thinks, and squirms wildly. Inadvertently, he dashes forward again - in midair! He lands on the floor completely unhurt even though he fell 15 feet onto a marble floor.

To his left is a doorway, apparently to the basement. Behind him is another dead end. Before him is another blind corner. But he hears something ... footsteps? He approaches the corner and peers around.

It's the huge room he was in when he woke up! And there's somebody running around in it!

"HEY," calls Nick.

The figure positions himself next to a pillar, still fully visible to Nick. A white speech bubble appears over his head. A moment later, words appear in Nick's mind:

"Where the hell are you?"

Nick steps out into the open. "Over here!" he yells.

The figure gets another speech bubble over his head. "Where's here, asshole?"

Nick switches to Al to see if he'd recognize the person in front of him. In doing so, the gun reappears. Unintentionally, he pulls the trigger and fires a bullet straight into the mystery figure! Al pauses in shock at the life he's just taken ... but the figure, apparently unharmed, turns to him and starts running down the hallway toward him! Even worse, he pulls out two sub-machine guns and starts shooting!

Al, pushed to defend himself, aims the gun and unloads it at the figure. His attacker runs straight down the hallway at him; Al moves slightly from side to side as he shoots. Bullets strike Al, but it doesn't slow him down in the least, though he feels his health decreasing.

By the time his rifle is out of bullets, the figure is on the ground, dead. As his body fades away, a word bubble appears over his head, and a portentous message is beamed into Nick's mind:

"Won't be so easy from here on out, asshole."

Chapter 2: Mike Payne

Al reappears in the library, full health, full ammo in his rifle. He heads out and to the left once again, and once again tries to jump the gap in the collapsed floor, but falls once again. What is the trick to that?

He cautiously walks out to the main room and looks around, but no one's there. He walks over to the statue, then the staircase, and searches for someone, but he's alone!

Then he notices: there's something moving along the walls.

Flitting about with terrifying speed is a man in a trenchcoat! He hugs the walls and fires a fury of blades in front of him, slashing the wall and jumping and dashing around! He seems uninterested in Al, though. Al raises his rifle and fires one shot, hitting the stranger. The trenchcoat flier zooms away like a centipede suddenly revealed from beneath an upturned stone, quickly disappearing.

Once again alone, Al wonders what that was all about. He switches to Nick, and the sword that goes along with it. He slashes the wall, but nothing happens. He tries jumping and slashing the wall, but still gets nothing. Then he realizes that the guy who was just here was dashing too, maybe he should try that.

However, out of the corner of his eye he spots the trenchcoat man again! He turns and produces his rifle. Al fires wildly, hitting the man ... zero times. The trenchcoat man disappears again.

Back to business, thinks Nick. He jumps, dashes, slashes, and jumps ... and double jumps into the air!

I wonder if I could do that again, he thinks, but the trenchcoat man is back! He unloads another clip. He thinks he might have hit him this time. The man disappears.

Nick resumes slashing the wall. He finds he can climb by doing this! He zooms up the wall like that other guy. Speaking of the other guy, he's back. Al fires another 40 rounds, missing him completely. He's almost out of ammo now, and finds a floating yellow icon that gives him two clips. He reloads.

This should be enough to kill him, he thinks.

Three hours later, after dozens of ammo refills, Mike Payne dies.

This failed. I was going to try to get people to remember Gunz, but have sex with it to hell.

Maybe I'll write one more chapter if there's time later.

It's interesting to see you fail at something. And Chris will never stumble into this thread to see it!

Also, continue this until you get to me.

I read the title of the first post and went, "Haha, that phrase is from Gunz" but my retard brain somehow didn't connect that to the story, until the end of the post.
