It is annoying typing for speed with double-dashes for em dashes, numbers, and quotes.

I can hit about 120 words/min if I don't have to read anything while typing. I averaged about 45 words/min when I was 12 and learned how to type with cardboard box over my fingers in computer class in elementary school.

Astronauts was a nightmare. Quotes are awful. So are proper names. Requires you to think, not rely on reflexes.

I don't get people in the modern era who type via hunt and peck.

I use my own style. The 'proper' way of typing was designed for typerwriters where you had to use significant force to press the key down. I think having your hands elevated like that increases the chance of RSI.

I rest my fingertips on "Home Row" and only use my right thumb for the space bar. I don't elevate my hands but try to move my fingers as little as possible when typing, always setting them back at home row position. I have a hard time with numbers, since I am used to using the number pad, and that isn't very natural or fast with normal typing. Mixing in numbers with letter is probably the only time I really look at the keyboard. I guess also for specific symbols/punctuation that requires shit+numbers for certain symbols I rarely use.

Does anyone else sometimes think by typing out with your fingers when not in front of a computer? I find myself doing it quite often.

I'm not doing this so you'll have to trust me I got 96 wpm when taking a typing test for a temp agency.
