Man, so this movie isn't doing that great, and now one of those pathetic "LET'S MAKE IT SUCCESSFUL!" drives is taking off on Narnia fansites.

"GET EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO SEE IT, AND SEE IT YOURSELF, THREE TIMES! WE NEED TO GET EVERYONE TO SEE IT!"

Yeah, because if you get a hundred, or a thousand, or TEN thousand people to do that, it'll really do something. Like that miniscule $10-$100,000 wave you make is going to stand up in the face of the tens of millions that the general masses aren't bringing. Like you and a few dozen other people updating your Facebook saying "SEE THIS MOVIE!" is going to do something that a 100 million dollar marketing campaign by the studio couldn't.

The saddest example of this was when the Dragon Ball fans tried to do this for the Dragon Ball movie. They knew it was shitty, but they figured that if they could get their 14 readers to go see it, then maybe that would convince the studio to make a sequel/reboot that wasn't shitty.

It's so sad and cute how people can't distinguish between things where a small, determined group actually can make a difference (revolutionary acts), and things where the "small, determined group" is pathetically trying to accomplish something mathematically impossible (box-office boosting, voting).

Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be a small group. That Passion of the Christ movie was very successful because of all of the nutjobs living in the US.

So they just have to recruit their brethren.

You're making a point in a sense, but that just kind of happened. It wasn't a result of some sort of organized push or effort. A bunch of different groups independently did that, and then it became a fad. It was a unique movie/situation.

And if somebody has a bigtime platform, hey maybe. If Justin Bieber said "GO SEE NARNIA 3," you might have something there.

The mass public's indifference or enthusiasm is going to outweigh any quantity of average people who go to a movie because they "want to support it," since the type of person who would do that, or even think to do that, is a tiny sliver of the moviegoing population.

I mean, as a symbolic gesture, OK. But don't pretend you're actually DOING anything!
