The thing is, if I were to have gone to Europe and had a very good waiter/waitress experience, even though it is frowned down upon to tip someone, I'd still feel like I'd put a bit of money the waiter/waitresses way to help them out, because even if they are making 8,000 euros more than their American counterparts, they still appreciate the money. Conversely, the idea that I expect to dine out, essentially being a guest in a restaurant for the purpose of enjoying some sort of food made by cooks who are trained in cooking, means that I have high expectations for the wait staff to complete the experience.
I mean, obviously if I'm going to On the Border or Chile's or some shit I don't care, but having had terrible hospitality service industry experiences and working in the service industry, there needs to be at least a little incentive for some service staff to not be lazy fucks.
I really don't want to sound like a libertarian! I don't believe in low wages, really! |

| I get very embarrassed when I'm out to dinner with a group of people and someone leaves a less than 15% tip. It's making the rest of us look like assholes! |

SOME OF THAT is accurate.
But where you really fucked up is the card!
I ALWAYS use cash, especially in restaurants! PEOPLE DRIVE ME ABSOLUTELY UP THE FUCKING WALL WITH THEIR FUCKING CARDS, HOLY SHIT.
I've found that in a situation where people are paying in cash except for one card person, the person with the card almost always ends up getting screwed and paying more than he should. I'll be fucked before I be THAT guy!

I would definitely do a lot of complaining (not to the staff, but to everyone there, yes), and you would probably think that I undertipped, so those parts are accurate.
I also criticize what people order if it isn't a good deal. *I* think I'm doing them a service, but they always just seem irritated. It's such thankless help! |

I'm always pretty generous with tips. Gotta fight them stereotypes! Plus, waitresses do remember you if you visit frequently and I get perks constantly now.
Also, I enjoy helping out my fellow humans. Arguing about helping someone out a little makes you a monster. |

| I'll sometimes tip more than what I paid for, especially if I'm at a bar. |

| I always tip 20%. Having working in food service, customers are the worst pieces of shit that have ever existed, and wait staff deserve more than the minimum wage they are stuck being paid because owners can pretend a restaurant is cheaper than it is by excluding true production costs by disguising it as "w/tips". |
