Innovation ended in 1991.

Everything after that is derivative bullshit.

Yeah, pretty much.

Original stuff after that point in time didn't really spawn much.

That's such a retarded load of fucking garbage.

At the very least the shift to 3d brought about a great deal of innovation. Honestly, video games didn't cease being creative in fucking 91 (or 94 as this list indicated).

Most of it was just an incremental improvements in graphics.

There are some novel things past that point, of course. MMOs, 3D platformers, stealth games...

You're right, mankind ceased being creative when we hit 16 bit.

Fucking christ...

I think the list of people they got to make these decisions annoys me more than the list itself.

Not a single Japanese developer?

An academic researcher?

THE EDITOR OF FUCKING JOYSTIQ DOT COM?

That doesn't even require a punchline.

Hahaha, god damn Kung Fu.

I don't think "backtracking" is a good word for being able to skip a couple stages and giving you the chance to complete them later so long as you don't leave the world since there's very little reason to actually do so.

Lost Levels has backtracking.

Backtracking as in you can revisit earlier parts of a stage to collect things you may have missed.

Which is ridiculous since several games, including Super Mario Bros. 2, precede that little feature.

It's obvious they tried to pin the first games of their kind as the superior games which doesn't leave much room for improvement in that field of vision. It's polls like these that the game editors need to stop balancing upon, I mean, they've looked too far into the subject to see what is true art of a video game. And, they came out from that box with sentimentality stuck all over their shirt.
