I think that there are more shootings now because our children are no longer taught to accept responsibility for their actions. Parents and government are both to blame for this. Parents, because they are not willing to put forth the effort to raise their children to respect others and their right to be different. When something goes wrong, the parents will often find a reason why someone or something else is to blame for the problem, never the child. The government enforces the problems by curtailing disciplinary action in schools, cutting school funding, cutting counseling at schools and eliminating after-school programs. We have raised a generation of me-first children who give no thought to anything beyond their own wants and needs. We have become a society where one person's view can take precedence over the majority. We have allowed God to be pushed aside in favor of the minority. We have become the most violent society in the world. Until things change, we can only expect to see more horrendous tragedies in the years to come.

The shootings are happening on school campuses because we are allowing them to. These are called "gun-free or safety zones." The problem is that the shooters go there because they know that security is usually lax or nonexistent, and that there will not be anybody else with weapons.

Regardless of what gun-control advocates believe, the evidence is clear, not only in this country but elsewhere in the world: You can have all the bans you want against guns; criminals do not care. Some say the answer is more security.

Although I support this idea, the fact remains that security cannot be in all places at all times. And usually by the time they respond it is too late. Like it or not, if law-abiding citizens are allowed to arm themselves for protection, they are in a better position to stop these shooters. Also, if shooters realize that private citizens are allowed to carry weapons in these so-called "gun-free or safety zones," they will not be so quick to go there. Again! Why do you think it is mainly happening on school campuses and in places where guns are banned?

This what our society has come too. We send our troops to other country's to bring peace and freedom and we do not even have any form of control for our own. Does it bother anyone other than me that if a kid has a problem the only solution is a drug. We are showing our kids everyday the violence in society thru every form of tv, reading, and radio and then we wonder why someone flips out. Mabe we should stop arresting people who punish thier kids on child endagerment charges and publisizing violence every hour on the hour. Our country is what we made it we sold our souls to who would ever buy them for whatever they would give and now we wonder why are kids are screwed up. Our election process is even set up on on race and gender instead of policy beliefs. Weare teaching our kids everyday of every minute that violence is the solution to all problems, just walk into any school in our nation. Teach accountability and morals for all not just a few. We go to war to get the terroist yet we take out the second choice and tell our kids it's ok because our goverment say's he was the worst of them all. Mbay we could find the solution to most of our problems just by looking in the mirror every morning and say do I want my child to act like today.

Gun free zones allow cowards to freely attack the innocent without fear of being struck down. Scum of the earth pick from the lowest fruit of the tree. Cowards don't want confrontation. A university killing in VA, a few years prior to VT, was stopped by students who went back to their vehicles to retreive weapons. If you actually research mass public killings, they occur more frequently in gun free zones than not

No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Shoot 'Em Up, Hitman, Lucky # Slevin, Shootin Aces, 3:10 To Yuma, You Kill Me, The Bourne Trilogy, American Gangster, Die Hard 4...and on and on and on.

All these recent, successful movies display America's lust for violence and they depict the gun as a noble means to deal with problems. Is it any wonder then, when life imitates "art"?

Here's information on the killer, THIS MEANT TO DIRECTLY RELATE TO THE COMMENTS I JUST POSTED:

The assistant professor at the School of Social Work said that she enjoyed having him as a student and that he was "a nice person; he was a nice kid."

In 2006, Kazmierczak was a student at Northern Illinois, police said, where he worked on a graduate paper that described his interest in "corrections, political violence, and peace and social justice."

The paper said Kazmierczak was "co-authoring a manuscript on the role of religion in the formation of early prisons in the United States."

University police Chief Donald Grady said Kazmierczak "was an awarded student. He was someone that was revered by the faculty and staff and students alike."

Fellow students and faculty described Kazmierczak as "a fairly normal, unstressed person," Grady said.

People close to Kazmierczak indicated that he was taking medication but had recently stopped, "and he had become somewhat erratic in the last couple of weeks," Grady said.

N really, at least in a publi school there is bullying and stuff, but students usually leave each other alone in a purely academic college setting, so I wonder why these guys arent shooting the profs instead, who are basically milking people less than half their age
